ランダムな形状にカットした木材をならべ不規則な面を作り、
そこに千切(ちぎり)という蝶々形(リボン形)の木片をアクセントとして配しています。
千切=契り の本来の目的は補強や、割れの進行防止のために埋め込むもので、
堅木と呼ばれる硬く強い材で作くられます。

Butterfly joint is a small piece of hard wood that holds two or more wood boards together and avoids cracking.
As well as its function, the butterfly/bow tie shape provides an accent on the woodwork.
